3 Reasons Why You Should Accept The Challenge
By Dalal, Age: 13
The #Salt4Syria challenge was created to raise awareness for the children in Syria. Most of the children that we’re working with have lost at least one of their parents and they need someone to support them and pay attention to them. There are many reasons why I encourage you to take the challenge. These are three of the main reasons why I think that everyone who is able to take the challenge should do it.
1. Syrian Children Feel Invisible
These kids in Syria feel completely invisible. They’re trapped in Syria. They feel like no one cares about them because the media only focuses on the Syrians who were able to escape Syria or on ISIS. We want to inform people that there are still children who live there under siege. The Syrian children we spoke with said that a normal day for them is having three bombs coming down on them. Many people don’t know that. We want to give the kids a chance to express how they feel and feel supported.
2. A Chance For A Better Future
The kids have dreams of becoming successful one day like us. One of the girls had told us that she would like to become an astronaut because up in the sky there are no checkpoints. The other girl told us she wanted to become a nurse so that she can help people. They both seemed like they were very eager to learn and be educated and we’d love to give them the chance to do that and achieve their goals.
3. They’re NOT Criminals
When we talked to the kids through Skype we asked them why it was important for the rest of the world to know what’s happening with them. The message they wanted to get through is that they aren't criminals, they’re normal kids who think they deserve to have the same life as the children here in Canada. They appreciate everything that they do have and try to make the best of it even though it’s not much. It’s heartwarming to hear how brave they are especially at a young age. There are many comments on Facebook posts of children in Syria that say they’re faking. This is a horrible lie, and we hope to counter it.
Show your support for young Syrians under siege by filming yourself tasting a pinch of salt, and sharing the video online. Our aim is to raise awareness for youth living these past 4 years under siege in Eastern Ghouta.
